Autumn News

With Autumn arriving, there will be a lot happening at The Mardale Inn as we continue investment to secure the future our community pub. Check back for updates, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media.

Short term we're delighted to announce that the pub has just been included in the 51st Edition of the 'Good Beer Guide' (GBG) published by the 'Campaign for Real Ale' (CAMRA). CAMRA members have been secretly visiting The Mardale during the first year of reopening and scoring our beer. Meeting the high standards to get listed in the GBG is both a testimony to our team who look after our ale, as well as our partnership with local brewers including Cumbrian Ales, Hawkshead, Bowness Bay & Gan Yam.

Thank you CAMRA for your support!

Coming back to life!

After raising £400,000 to 'Save a Pub for the Valley', 'The Mardale Inn at St Patrick's Well' was purchased by over 500 members of Bampton Valley Community Pub in May 2022. The pub had been closed for 5 years and needed significant investment to secure its future.

As cash permitted, we have been reopening in a phased manner. We started with drinks only on July 1st 2022 and in late November 2022, with invaluable funding from The Prince's Countryside Fund, we reopened the kitchen.

Given amazing support from Inspiring Eden we reopened 6 bedrooms in May 2023 - with 4 of them being a brand new refurbishment! Click on 'Sleep' to book ..... or email us or call us if you need any questions answered.

Come visit our refreshed pub, meet our friendly team led by Emily, Nick and Steph, enjoy the best in local Cumbrian ales, keg beers, wine, gins and food - and now perhaps stay for a couple of days!

Help us bring the soul of this important Valley community hub to life!

As a 'community hub', we host a number of events at different times (see below) and we also serve food 7 days a week.

We are a small pub so booking ahead for a meal is a good idea. Reservations are available at the following times (the kitchen closes 90 mins after the last booking time):

  • Mon to Sat Evening - 530PM to 8PM

  • Fri & Sat Lunch - Noon to 130PM

  • Sun - Noon to 230PM & 5PM to 7PM

Click for sample menus below (we do a number of daily specials listed on the blackboard):

Alternative parking areas slightly farther away include (we are a beautiful Valley for an evening stroll):

  • 3 cars in the layby just along from Bampton School House heading towards Haweswater

  • 4 cars by Bomby Green and the bridge to Bampton Grange

  • 6 cars by Chapel Bridge (over Haweswater Beck)

Planning to visit us lunchtime on a Monday to Thursday? The pub is not open at that time but you may buy a coffee, sandwich or pasty etc from our friends at 'Bampton Valley Stores' 75m away from the pub.

Bampton is a small village of narrow lanes so we ask you to walk or cycle to visit us - or park considerately if coming by car. A number of recommended parking places are on the map here - which are only 100 to 200 metres walk away.
